guess who...

...is 6 months old today?

2 shiny white teeth
lots of practice using them
bright blue eyes and a little brown head
always scanning the room, looking for his entertainment
prefers sitting up, eating toys, waving his arms
starting to refuse his daytime bottles
lots of giggling at big bro and sis
wide grin and big eyes when he sees daddy
2 chubby little arms waving "pick me up"
enjoys his big red seat at table (when he can talk 2 forks out of it)
adorable little rolls and rolls and rolls
loves riding in mamas sling

such a blessing....to us all.

Bible stories

Little Mommy tried to help out Youngest Brother today, whilst his diaper was getting changed. She thought he would feel better if she read him a Bible story. She got out her little pink Bible, and this is what she 'read':

"God created the whole rainbow world. And there was a big responsibility, that the water would never come back."

Talk about the Cliff Notes version of the first few chapters of Genesis!

Bananas

The other day, Two Forks is eying a bunch of bananas on the kitchen counter. He ranks right up there with the Saint Louis Zoo for per-diem-per-capita consumption. Unfortunately, this particular bunch is still a bit green, and there are no yellow ones in striking distance.

Two Forks looks up at Mommy H and says, "We don't eat the green ones."

Oh? Why not?

"When they grow up, they turn yellow."

About that Youngest Brother...

An old story, that I am just remembering to share...

In the first few hours of Youngest Brother's life outside the womb, Little Mommy made an astute observation about his face: "Who took out all his teeth?"

We think that someone might be starting to put them back in this week... we shall see!

Honey

Quote of the day, from Little Mommy:

(After Little Mommy asked if honey and jelly were the same thing, and Daddy resorted to explaining honey with a Winnie-the-Pooh reference...)

"Daddy, the next time we see a bee outside, can we take our honey thing outside and let the bee fill it up?"

Ahh, if only it were that simple...

To the Zoo!

We recently celebrated the second annual festival of the remembrance of the day Two Forks told his mother, "Let me out! NOW!" To mark the occasion, we loaded up for the trek to the Saint Louis Zoo. Like a herd of turtles... talking turtles, no less...

During the drive we asked Little Mommy and Two Forks about what animals they wanted to see. We mentioned that, since the weather was cold, we might see different animals than we had seen during the summer. (At this point, a minor clarification must be made. On one level, I know that 55 degrees with a high of 67 is not "cold." On another level, mathematical comparisons are lost on an audience that can't collectively count past 20 without someone counting down and yelling, "Blast Off!" But, I digress.)

The penguins were, of course, the first animal on Little Mommy's list. Mommy H asked her if the penguins liked the cold. Of course she said yes. Mommy H asked her what other animals liked the cold. "Polar Bears!"

(Hey, we're two for two! Can we get a trifecta....?)

Mommy H asked the back seat, "And what other animals like the cold?"

... .... ....

Two Forks trumpets, "MOMO!"

... ... ...

(Clarification #2: No, a MOMO is not a new muppet. It's typical habitat is the mountain slopes of Colorado. It has been known to travel long distances, and it has previously made appearances at the Saint Louis Zoo. Frequently it is accompanied by the PAPA, and it is often responsible for whatever package of childrens' clothing that the UPS driver deposits at our door.)

(Yes, yes, the story... I was just getting back to that.)

... ... ...

Two Forks' declaration was met with an outbreak of The Typical Response. (Hopefully you have had The Typical Response while reading this. If not, online comics are free, too...) And after The Typical Response, the punch line was almost retracted by Two Forks when he said, "Momo's dog!"

Ah-HA!

(My, that Two Forks... he is a funny fellow!)

Aaand we're back!

After a long break, finally, a blog update! I can't cover two months of activities in one post. You'll have to settle for anecdotes that get remembered out of order (of chronology or importance).

But first, a little nomenclature update is required...

"Little E" will now be known as Little Mommy.
"Little I" will henceforth become Two Forks.
And number three will be assigned the placeholder of...
Cranky Pants.

Ok, ok, just joking.

He's not THAT cranky.

Only when he gets cold while having a diaper change. ;)

Until his personality quirks are more evident, we'll temporarily refer to him as, Youngest Brother.

Stay tuned for further updates... same bat time, same bat channel...
